Help! My Dog’s Feet Smell Like Fritos – Wanna Know Why?

Besides smelling something reminiscent of a snack food, what else can you look for to help pinpoint whether or not your dog is suffering from something more sever than common foot funk?

Symptoms of a Paw Infection

Typical symptoms that accompany the problems with the pads of your dog’s feet include:

  • Redness
  • Inflammation
  • Flaky foot pads
  • Swelling
  • Excessive licking

Treating the Paws

Simply mix a GALLON of water and 1/2 cup of white or apple cidar vinegar.  You may also use green tea in place of water.  Water and vinegar solutions should never be used near the eyes.  Use this solution only as a foot soak.  Your dog’s feet can be soaked several times a day until the feet heal and it will help reduce inflammation, itching, and redness. Pat dry.  For very sore irrited feet, vinegar may be too irritating.  A mixture of Provodone Iodine diluted with water (mix to the color of weak iced tea) may also be used.

We always knew dog feet weren't the most wonderfully spelling appendage, but how interesting to know that there is a reason behind that specific smell? Thanks to the team working at DogTube for providing us with this insightful information and treatment option for dogs!

Just remember, if the symptoms do not improve after treating their paws for a few days, you should then consider taking them in to the vet. They may have a fungal infection in addition to something else, possibly something more severe. So please take note of their progress and proceed with professional assistance if your pup has not fully recovered after this home remedy treatment.
