The Nylabone Recall — Harmful To Dogs And People!

Yes, your puppy could get very sick from the contaminated Nylabone. But of equal importance, YOU could get highly sick from the Nylabone…just by touching it.

Salmonella is't always lethal or deadly, but you may find yourself wishing for death when you're plagued with the symptoms. The disease makes you exceptionally ill. And a mere touch…skin contact with this nasty little bug… can easily place you in harms way of catching the powerful sickness.

We have all heard of salmonella, and no, it is not a little baby salmon fish. It is a tiny bug with a big, that packs a nasty punch. The Food and Drug Administration strongly warns that humans who even managed to touch the Nylabone Puppy Starter Kitdog chews are at very high risk of infection if they did not thoroughly wash their hands and clean any surfaces that may have come in contact with the product.

Some may dismiss that concept, but think of how often you actually go an wash up after picking up a dog chew toy…

most likely you seldom do.

So, this particular recall covers one batch, essentially 3,000 pieces, of the 1.69 ounce package of Puppy Starter Kit dog chews, which contain three bone-shaped chews designed for puppies that are teething. The chews, made by New Jersey-based Nylabone Products, were distributed nationwide and in Canada.

The important issue here is that the FDA warns that symptoms of Salmonella in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and can lead to more severe ailments in some rare cases. Pets with Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea, fever and vomiting. It is not fatal, but causes severe sickness. On the positive side, officials said no health issues have been reported in connection with the recall. The company identified the presence of Salmonella in one lot during routine testing and immediately responded by recalling all possible infected items nationwide.

To be on the safe side, if you have a package at home, check the serial number and dates. The chews are marked with Lot #21935, UPC 0-18214-81291-3 and an expiration date of 3/22/18 on the back of the package are the ones to watch for. All others are safe. Of course, you are supposed to take the product back to the store for a full refund or replacement.

Fortunately, the batch of tainted products has been isolated and all but eliminated prior to anyone, canine or human, getting infected with the bug.

Nylabone itself took the lead in both discovering the problem and aggressively removing all the contaminated product from store shelves and consumers. They put forth an honest assessment of the entire situation on their website and took steps to notify media and consumers.

Their website says it all:

Nylabone is proud of our well-earned reputation for safety, quality and excellence in our products since our first dog toy was manufactured in 1955.

As pet parents ourselves, we at Nylabone have the safety and well-being of our customers’ dogs first and foremost in our minds with every single product we make.

It was during one of our many quality control tests that we identified a small lot of Puppy Starter Kits with a dog chew that tested positive for salmonella. The positive test was from one single lot (LT 21935), a small number of less than 3000 pieces of Nylabone Puppy Starter Kits made in our facilities in Neptune City, New Jersey. No other Nylabone products were affected.

Should you have a Puppy Starter Kit with that lot number and have questions, please call our consumer hotline below, and please be sure to return the product to the address at the bottom of this page for a full refund or replacement.

We have been working with the few customers who received this batch of product to return the pieces. We regret this incident and thank you for your continued confidence in Nylabone dog toys and chews. What are the product details?
