Some Fruits And Veggies Are Bad For Your Dog…Do You Know Which Ones?

If your pooch does happen to eat food that he's not supposed to have, consult with your vet and find out if the fruit or veggie is toxic to your furry friend. If it is, it's best to bring him to the nearest emergency center. When in doubt always keep a watchful eye on your pooch around dangerous foods!

Here is a list of eight different types of produce that can be toxic food for dogs.

1. Grapes, raisins, and currants
They’re a great human snack, but grapes and raisins are one of the most dangerous types of foods your pup can eat.

2. Onions, garlic, and chives
Consuming a teaspoon of powdered, raw, cooked, or any other form of garlic, onions, or chives can cause some serious health problems for dogs.

3. Avocado
It may be great on chips and tacos, but guacamole should always be kept far from your curious pet.

4. Persimmons, peaches, plums, apricots, and cherries
The seeds in persimmons can cause inflammation of the small intestine if consumed by your dog.

5. Mushrooms
Certain types of wild mushrooms can be poisonous and even fatal if consumed by dogs. If your dog has eaten a toxic mushroom, he may begin to exhibit symptoms.

6. Tomato plants
The stems, vines, and leaves of tomato plants may contain atropine and tomatine, which can be poisonous to dogs. If you do give your dog tomato, do so in small amounts, and give her the fruit part only.

7. Potatoes
Neither humans nor dogs should eat raw potatoes if they are green or have a green rim. Raw and green potatoes may contain solanum alkaloids (solanine) that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and irregular heartbeats in dogs.

8. Rhubarb
Rhubarb also contains oxalates, and consuming this type of plant can cause problems with your pet’s nervous system, digestive tract, and kidneys.

It can be quite tricky keeping track of all of the foods that can make your doggy ill, so when in doubt check with a reputable site such as Cesar's Way or ASPCA. The last thing you need is a very sick doggy on your hands.

It's better to check first before giving your pooch fruit that he can't have. Keep your pup healthy and he'll be around for many more years to come!
