How to Prevent Your Pooch From Becoming Obese Before it Takes Place

pug at the vet in pain

It can be really tough. There your doggy is standing in front of an empty food bowl. He's looking up at you with those big, brown eyes and your first instinct is to give him what he wants. He’s obviously hungry, and you need to fill that bowl again, even though he's already eaten. After all, a full puppy is a happy puppy, right?

Unfortunately, you may be doing your dog a disservice. He doesn’t really have a turn-off switch. While some dogs may be picky most will eat and eat until they practically burst!

And you may not think it's that bad, giving Fido an extra pan of kibble or a little more canned food just to make the growling tummy go away. But it will eventually show when the veterinarian tells you your dog is overweight.

  1. I have commented numerous times that some of the pugs featured are dangerously obese. Perhaps you should choose cute pictures of healthy weight pugs so as not to give the wrong impression on what’s cute.

  2. Pugs are so precious and they love to eat. I lost mine to diabetes and I caused it by feeding him too much. I didn’t realize I had to be the disciplined one. They cannot be “self-feeders.” They have us to help keep things healthy.
