If you are like us, you keep a good eye on your dog; watching him for odd behaviors that might indicate stress or illness. Then, one day, you may be petting your doggy and discover an unusual lump that you never noticed before!

The things that run through our minds at a time like this are crazy. Is it an infection or, God forbid, cancer?

Chances are, it is a fatty tumor; also known as a lipoma. It is a benign lump usually found in older dogs. These tumors can be found nearly anywhere on your pooch’s furry body and, for the most part, are not painful.

While any dog can develop a fatty tumor, it is usually the overweight dog that is more prone to developing a lump or two. Again, lipomas are not dangerous but, if it gets big enough, they can eventually cause discomfort.

  1. One of our girls develoved a mast cell tumor that was cancer about 8 months ago. We had it removed and as of 2 months ago she has 2 more lumps and has been on Prednisone everyday trying to shrink them.
