Doggy Blood Donors? It’s Real And It Saves Lives Each Year

We don’t ever really think about where the blood that is donated to canines for surgery comes from. Naturally for humans, there are blood and plasma banks everywhere and, of course, blood is drawn at hospitals. But where exactly does “Fido” get blood when he needs it?

As it turns out, there is a constant need for canine blood to help ill and wounded dogs during a surgical procedure. In many areas a monthly or bi-monthly visit from your dog is all it takes – and it truly can save another pup’s life!

Regular donors are need desperately. The blood itself only has a shelf life of around one month and if not refilled, if not enough blood is in stock, there can be dire consequences for a pooch in need of surgical services.
