You look at the shelves in your local pet store and see all the wonderful peanut butter items. They have soft cookies, hard biscuits and even a tube of peanut butter style protein you can squeeze onto the edge of your dog’s bowl or in a Kong ©. So, peanut butter is a good thing, right?

Not so fast.

Unenlightened, this writer is as guilty as everyone else when it comes to believing what she has been told by laypersons. In the past, while I was fixing myself a snack, when my dog looked up at me with those big brown eyes, I’d break off a piece of bread, dip it in that that pea-nutty goodness, and pass it down so he could have a taste. Little did I know that I might be feeding my poor dog a serious toxin!
