Getting your dog the typical immunization a pooch needs to keep them healthy and happy is a no brainer.

However, there is a contingent that states, without apology, that they sometimes feel our best friends are over immunized! And, in some cases, particularly having to do with rabies, a dog should not have to be “incarcerated” for months on end because their masters missed a deadline.

On March 1, 2016, the Compendium of Animal Rabies Prevention and Control Committee published modified endorsements for the handling of dogs overdue for rabies shots – should they be exposed to the virus.

It proposed that pets exposed to rabies who are overdue for the immunization be re-vaccinated and observed closely rather than be quarantined or euthanized.
