If your dog is not healthy because you recently adopted your pet and they came from an unhealthy environment or they've encountered health problems from other dogs, don't fret. If you're doing your best to take care of your pup then they should feel better in no time. In addition here are some great tips for you to keep in mind:
1. Water
Water is the basis for life. It is key to everything.
2. Diet
Don’t buy cheap supermarket foods for your dog. It is worth spending a little extra for a decent dog food.
3. Super foods
Whenever you can, get some super foods into your dog’s diet.
4. Dangerous foods
There are certain foods that your dogs should never eat. You can start with things such as chocolate, grapes and raisins, caffeine, macadamia nuts, alcohol, fruit pits and seeds, cooked bones, onions and leeks.
5. Lose the fat from the dog’s weight
All dogs of any size should have an hourglass figure.
6. Daily Exercise
Daily exercise helps prevent obesity and health problems. Go for walks together, jog, swim, register for agility or frisbee classes.
7. Stay nice and trim
Feed at least two meals a day. Frequent, smaller meals do a better job of keeping hunger at bay than one large meal.
Keep the treats to a minimum. Reward sometimes with a food treat but more often with praise and belly rubs
8. Your dog’s teeth
Brushing your dog’s teeth promotes good dental hygiene and helps your dog avoid problems such as tartar, gum disease, tooth loss, infection, and bad breath.
Invest in some doggy toothpaste and a toothbrush. Ideally the teeth need brushing every day to keep them in the best condition.
9. Visit the vet annually
Annual check-ups can help identify any new problems before they become serious and ensure vaccinations are up-to-date.
10. Have fun with the dog
Spend time with your dog and make him part of your life. Talk to him, play with him, touch him, take him places, and include him in activities.
Your pup relies on you to be healthy, so don't take your job as a dog parent lightly. Every breed has different needs, but the basic needs such as water, quality food, getting exercise, and of course being loved all remain the same. Take care of your pet and they'll reward you with a long life full of health and love. Also, check out DogTube for more excellent health tips for your German Shepherd and other dog breeds!
