Most kids are eager to be BFF's with the dogs they encounter, and who blames them? Generally dogs are sweet animals that are trained well and love to make new friends, but for every friendly pooch there are a few that are, well, not so friendly.

So what's a parent to do when their child wants to reach out and pet/hug/kiss every dog that they see? This is one of those tough situations where you as a parent need to make a conscious effort to teach your kids about dog etiquette. Doing so will ensure your safety and the safety of your child as well.

Petting a dog that that doesn't want to be touched can result in a disaster for all parties involved. It's important to explain to your child that not every dog is friendly and put rules in place for yourself and your children. You can ask if it's okay to pet a dog, but never assume that it's okay. Just don't.
