New Police Car System Will Prevent K9’s From Hot Car Death

The German Shepherd’s name is Yasso and he is not just the officer’s partner but also his best friend. Keeping him in good health is all important. We cannot blame either for wanting the best transportation, with a safety device installed, for them both!

Keeping K9s cool in hot weather has been a Twinsburg Police Department policy since 1996 with detection units built into each K9 unit patrol car.

The most recent car has an AceK9, Hot-N-Pop unit that has a new program built in, the “No K9 Left Behind” program.

Its sensors provide constant temperature readings to officers, along with safety features that automatically roll down car windows and turns on an additional fan if the car's air-conditioning fails.

“It's not going to open the doors, but will roll down the windows and turn on the fan,” said Encarnacion.

The system is fool-proof. If it should shut down for some reason the system will automatically start beeping and states: “No K9 left behind” clearly. It then orders the officer to open the door and remove the dog. A remote, which the officer carries, will open the police car’s door from a distance.
