You have had your dog for a while, and he appears perfectly well. You take him in every year, watch as the vet checks vitals, maybe does a quick bloodwork-up and immunizations. All in all, it’s a good visit and Rover – as usual – is healthy and happy.

Now, a year later, it’s already time to go back, and you look closely at Rover and wonder if this time he could miss his annual exam. After all, he looks just as healthy as last year.

A cynical part of you may even wonder if it’s necessary every year for your best friend to be seen; maybe all this care is just a money making scheme all veterinary offices orchestrate!

So, is it such a bad thing to miss Rover’s exam this year?

Honestly, it really is a good idea to have your furry family member checked every year. The vet isn't greedy! He needs to follow both the law and the guidelines of ethical practice.
