How Do you Store Your Dog’s Dry Food? Here Are The Best Ways to Keep Your Doggy’s Food Fresh

Dog Food

The well-being of your pup is all important and if you truly want to keep him or her healthy and full of pep you need to not just read nutrition labels but store the food in the proper way. Here are some methods that can help!

Storing Dry Dog Food
Plastic, glass or metal bins can also help protect dog food from the elements and from insects, rodents and other vermin; but owners should still place the food inside its original bag rather than pouring the kibble directly into a container. Store the bag or container off of the floor in a cool and dry location. Bins on wheels simplify the storage and movement of large bags of food.

Ideally, dry food should be consumed within six weeks of opening the bag, so pick your bag sizes appropriately. Kibble can be left out in bowls for a day or so, but make sure you don’t offer more than what should be consumed in 24 hours.

Storing Canned Dog Food
An unopened can of dog food can remain fresh for years when stored in a cool and dry location, but only buy the number of cans that can be used before they reach their “best by” dates. Once opened, canned food should be stored in the refrigerator for no longer than seven days.

Just remember all dog foods should have an expiration on the bag or can label(s) and it is a good idea to stick the expiration date on the food (if you store it in a different bag) to get the maximum freshness and health benefits from the product.
