Why it’s Really Important for You and Your Dog to Stay Away from Blue-Green Algae

There is a Lab named Copper to thank for the following story, and we all need to bow our heads in respect because the poor pooch met a sad and painful end. His sacrifice, along with other afflicted dogs, could save countless others!

Poor Copper was playing in and around Prairie Lake in Minnesota. He was running after tennis balls that landed in the water. Suddenly, the happy and healthy Lab stumbled to the shoreline and passed out!

He was rushed to the vet’s office but died. His doctor believed Copper died after ingesting toxins from blue-green algae in the water! It produced a toxin that was not only deadly for the Lab but any other animal within contact!

Admittedly, this toxin is a soupy green and blue, and if we saw it, we would never swim in something like that but a dog, with only the urge to drink or play, a dog has no fear. The potentially deadly water is – very sadly – the perfect lure for animals.

After the break, learn more about why jumping in this water could lead to health issues or worse for your furry friend.
