Wet dog smell. You know what we're talking about. That musky, thick scent that lingers around whenever our dog has an encounter with water. It typically gets stronger when they're starting to dry off.

But what makes them smell so bad? It's even more confusing when you've used doggy shampoo that smells good in the bottle, but once washed your pooches “wet dog” scent still tends to dominate their coat.

Blehhh.

Why do we smell him so acutely? Did the water somehow bring all that dirt, grime and oil to the surface? Was our dog really that filthy to begin with? He didn't smell this bad before the water. Did he?

Yes, we love our pooches but “Phew!” we could certainly do without all the copious odor.
