  1. It depends on the elderly person. My brother in law got a puppy for his mom for companionship and she abused him. I said enough and took the little dog home with us. Also make sure there is a plan to care for the dog in case the elderly person dies; it shouldn’t have to go to the pound.

  2. Yes they are good if the person is well enough to walk and care for pet. It gives them exercise as well as the pet. I have just retired and have a pug. We go out walking and I let her out and play in yard which keeps me moving.
