4 Fascinating Facts About Your Pooch’s Paws – #2 is SO Surprising!

dog paws

While we may not think about your dog's paws that often, they mean everything to your dog. They support him and get him where he needs to go! Take a look below:

1. The pads of your dog’s paw are largely made up of fatty tissue, which is why their feet don’t get cold when they’re prancing through the snow! The pads of the paws provide protection and cushioning to your dog when walking on hard surfaces or across rough terrain.

2.  If your dog starts excessively licking or gnawing at his or her paws, it could be a sign of anxiety. The chewing could lead to open sores and infection, so make sure to get your vet involved!

3. Dog breeds that are native to some of the coldest countries of the world where there is often lots of snow and ice on the ground will generally display much larger, wider pads than other dogs of an equivalent size and build. This is no accident; it helps them to grip and walk safely on ice and makes it easier for them to walk on snow.

4. Some dog breeds have webbed feet, notably breeds that are renowned for their swimming ability! The Newfoundland is one of these, and a few others are the Portuguese Water Dog and the Field Spaniel.

The care of Fido's toes, paw pads, and nails are important. And what is that odd smell that comes from your dog’s feet? Fritos anyone? LOL!
