10 Realities New Pug Owners Must Learn to Accept

Whether you're considering getting a Pug or already have a Pug, who's a part of the family, then you may or may not know that Pugs love to be the life of the party. Not only that but they are wonderful at showing the people they love the most just how much they care.

Pugs also love to run around and play and even though they're small dogs, that doesn't phase them. When encountering a big dog, they just want to be friends or let the bigger dog know who's in charge! LOL!

This intelligent breed takes a lot of responsibility and if we're honest, can sometimes be a handful. They suffer from anxiety if left alone for too long, and if possible they would love to be with you at all times. They love being the center of attention and you may even discover your Pug showing off by doing a crazy antic or two. Expect a lot of laughs!

If you don't have a Pug then what are you waiting for?! They make the perfect furry family members and will become best friends with your children too.

Of course, with any dog comes a lot of responsibility, and with that there are some realities you need to accept about your Pug.

After the break, we're going to shed some light on some Pug factors you need to accept, but don't run the other direction after you read about these realities. A Pug is well worth your love and admiration because they'll give you just as much love (if not more) in return!

  1. I adopted an 11 year old pug and his 13 year old minpin buddy a few years ago. Best decision I ever made. I took them on vacation with me to Myrtle Beach. They were great travelers. Unfortunately, health problems arose that couldn’t be treated. I had to say goodbye to the minpin two Thanksgivings ago. My sweet Rocky became ill in February right after. Even with my cats my house was too quiet. I got Fizzgig at 8 weeks old. He was supposed to be all pug but turned out to be a chug (part chihuahua). Doesn’t matter. He’s my heart. He goes everywhere with me that dogs are allowed. My best bud. He is like many pugs and would rather wait if it’s raining but he loves the snow. Great breed.

  2. This is my first pug Dixie Mae. She was a stray and I adopted her from our local Humane Society. She grew up with my kids and was part of our family for over 10 years. I lost her a little over a year ago to cancer. I have two smaller dogs and someday I will get another black dog. I loved her so much and she was always showing love for everyone!

  3. Sugar had her surgery, it took a little longer than expected because the stones also had sand like stones that were almost muddy textured. They had to scrape them out…they also found a hernia that had to be repaired. She did well and is on antibiotics, pain meds and an anti-inflammatory. She isn’t overly active by nature so I think she should heal well.
