Here’s How to Figure Out Whether or Not Another Doggy Companion is a Good Idea for Your Pug

two pugs together

Think you and your pooch are ready for another doggy? Consider these important factors before adoption.

Do you think your dog would appreciate another companion for when you go to work during the day?

Pros:
Adopting another dog means more love all round
They provide companionship and a playmate for your first dog

Cons:
Messy pups means more to clear up, in the garden or in the house
Your first dog may react badly to less individual attention
May be a bad influence on each other and be destructive when you’re not home

So if you are considering it, here’s what to do before:

Research the dog breed
Make sure your first dog’s temperament and character is a match with the second breed you want to adopt.

Spay/neuter same sex dogs

Train your dog well
Make sure your first dog is trained well and is obedient before you bring in another dog.

Introduce them slowly and keep an eye on them
Do not leave them alone and unsupervised without you until you’re sure there will be no aggressive behaviour.

Twice the dogs, twice the love, if you think you can handle a second dog then go for it.

Now that you know the pros and cons of adopting a second pooch, can you and your lonely Pug handle it? If that answer is yes, then hooray! Get ready for twice the fun!

  1. I got my dog because he would not accept being a 2nd pug in the house!! My mother tried to take him in and love him, but he and his 1/2 brother fought quite aggressively! He is a joy and a love as an only dog in the house!!! That was over 10yrs ago – he will be 13 in July.
