Determining Your Dogs Age…. We’ve Been Calculating It Wrong This Whole Time!

Ever see a dog, big or small, and wonder just how old they are? We can guess by gauging their height and weight and if there are any stray grey hairs along their muzzle maybe. Yet, we can never really be sure. We recently saw a Great Dane the size of a pony and learned it was not even a year old yet!

Although determining a pooch’s age can never be exact there are ways of ascertaining your dog’s age for up to two years.

When you pick up a pup from a rescue center you can ask them how old they think your new fury family member is. They will give you an approximation – but experts say the rescuers are often wrong.

Mixed breed dogs are, understandably, even more difficult to pin point an age than pure breeds.

  1. My pug is 11 and I am terrified of the day I lose him. I have other dogs, but he has been through so much with me. He’s the one left that was with me when our house burned. They were all saved, but the other two have passed.
Maybe it takes other pug owners to get how they want to be next to you all the time. They sense your pain and when I almost died in June, the last thing I remember before losing all consciousness, was him licking my face, trying to get me to come to.
