7 Things You Are Doing That Are Unintentionally Breaking Your Dog’s Heart

sad pug puppy

Poor puppy! If she makes a mistake, especially when you're potty training a young pup, it's up to you to train her in a positive way and never, never rub her nose in her mess. You're there to give her as much love and attention as what she's giving you, remember?

7) Rubbing their nose in it

Rewarding your dog for going potty outside is an integral first step to house training. A key part of house training your dog, however, is preventing indoor accidents from happening in the first place. Yelling at your dog, rubbing their nose in their mess, or giving them a spanking doesn’t teach your dog to potty outside—it teaches him to be fearful of you and to have those accidents out of sight. (And come on, you paid good money for those bath rugs.)

While house-training, Tinkling Tucker should always be within sight and constantly monitored. Kennel your dog or puppy while you can’t monitor them, keep them on a leash, or if they are small, have them in your lap while you are on the couch or at the computer.

Now that you're aware of seven things you may have been doing that have been unintentionally breaking your dog's heart, hopefully, you're ready to tackle them and retrain yourself (seriously!) and your pooch. 😉

Remember, no one is perfect so don't be too hard on yourself. Your pooch thankfully is gifted with the ability to provide you with tons of unconditional love and she easily forgives. So put your best foot (and paws) forward and learn how to train and communicate with Fido positively and give one another lots of love in the process!

  1. My pug had been badly abused before I got him. He was 8 months old. It took him a year to bark. He is the King of my castle. He is almost 10 years old. I would not trade him for the world!!

  2. They sure are. The woman that had him wanted him to breed. He was 8 months old. You can see the burn marks on his legs. A friend of mine wanted him. He kept him one night. I could tell he was scared of his shadow. I felt sorry for . I’m a cat person. His sad face got me.

  3. We dont do any of this to our 4 Pugs. Our babies always get treats when they sit tho because it took forever for us to teach them that. And we get them to come to us by calling their names and patting our knees. I love cuddling all 4 of my babies. They smell bad, but its worth it! 🙂 <3
