100 Years of Breeding Changed These 5 Well-Known Dog Breeds

Pug Changes Over Years

You adopt a pure breed dog, have papers from a fine line of the breed you love, and you imagine the kings and queens of years past loving the same type of pooch you absolutely adore!

However, it might surprise you to know the pups they fussed over actually look only a little like the furry family member you are gazing at this very moment!

One hundred years of breeding, attempting to get a dog to look and behave a certain way, have pretty much changed their looks!

Remember, a working class dog was just that fifty to one hundred years ago. If they were being bred to do a job a breeder, then and now, would probably do something to the blood-line to make certain their dog could rise to the occasion!

And as far as looks go, with the advent of dog shows and how certain kennel clubs feel a certain breed of dog should look — Well, let’s just say a little of this and that might make a breed “perfect” in a judge’s eyes. It also can take away from their original breeding purpose and look!

After the break, read up on five dogs and see how the years have changed them!

  1. People comment how fit, leggy and how his nose is a tad bit longer than most. My guy resembles the classic pug. His breeder specifically breeds closest thing to a classic pug for better health.(my main care as well, healthy & happy pug.)

  2. I found this boy in a shelter as a 9 week pup. I knew he wasn’t full pug. He has a 1 inch snout, long legs, no snorting and runs like the wind. He’s also about 35 lbs and has no health problems. He’s like a pug should be.

  3. Frenchies cant even get pregnant by themselves anymore. Short snouted dogs are prone to breathing problems. Why buy purebred when a mutt is so much better? German shepherd doberman mix is my future pup!
