Why We Turn to Our Furry Friends for Help When Disasters Take Place

Rescue Dog

Search and Rescue animals are not new. We’ve heard about their accomplishments many times, how a dog during a rescue effort was able to find a hidden man or child when their human master was unable to detect the subject of a search.

We have also heard, to a lesser extent, how a dog can be there for the more emotional moments during a disaster, as a shoulder to cry on, helping those involved with trauma and loss. It seems like such a small thing but the help a canine can bring during these moments is tremendous.

It is also noted by experts that a human being will open up when a dog is in the room. While cuddling or petting a dog, after or during a disaster, a person will start to talk because they are feeling more comfortable; their blood pressure is going down.

Thus, more information can be obtained by rescue workers – as well as the ever patient non-judgmental and listening pooch!

After the break, learn more about rescue dogs during disasters and their special talents that help people press on during the hard times!
