Getting a New Puppy in 2016? Here are Some Trending Doggy Names!

pug puppy

Enjoy the following puppy names that are sure to be very popular in 2016. Not only are they great for young pooches, but when they grow into dogs they can stand with their peers, heads held high!

Romeo

This is a simple name that means “Man from Rome,” and it’s a great name that everyone can enjoy. Perhaps this name is one that you can use to give to a dog that seems to have a flirty personality. It is the kind of name that’s sweet and simple, but means so much more than just man from Rome. We love it, and we think you will, too.

Molly

When we think of the name Molly as a puppy, we see a dog with long ears, a slow moving pace and a friendly and very protective personality. The name is actually just another meaning for Mary, and that is a very powerful name. If you want to talk protective, let’s go ahead and mention that Mary is the mother of Jesus and that’s a pretty strong and pretty protective name as a whole. We like it, and we think that it’s perfection in terms of puppyhood.

Toby

It’s not a biblical name, but it’s one that could be very biblical for those who are comfortable with their religion and their relationship with God. This is a name that means God is good, and that’s something pretty unique and special. God is good, so this name could be a tribute to Him as you name your new dog. After all, what better thing than a dog, and that’s actually God spelled backward, so it all seems a bit like a win-win, right?

Sophie

It’s one of the most popular little girl names in the world right now, but not everyone wants to name their little girl Sophie since it’s everyone else’s name, too. So, how about using it on your dog, instead? It’s unlikely your dog named Sophie will go to kindergarten with another dozen Sophie’s so it might work out for you. The name Sophie means ‘wise and intelligent,’ and we love that since dogs are both – and very good about it, too.

Jack

Another name that is quite religious if you get down into it, Jack is also very short and very sweet. That makes it a perfect choice for a friendly, loving and super sweet little puppy. This name means “God is gracious,” and that is something that’s quite meaningful. Or perhaps you like it simply because it is short and sweet and still a lot of fun.

Charlie

It seems like a perfect puppy name, does it not? This is so much fun and we think that calling a dog Charlie is asking to have a dog that is just part of the family. It’s one of those things that makes you think of years from now when your kids are all grown and telling their own kids, “I remember this one time that Charlie and I were…” and that’s got to make you feel pretty good. The name means free man, which is just a wonderful expression for a puppy.

Jake

What is more All-American and boy-like than a name such as Jake? It’s fun, simple, sweet and perfect for a precocious little boy or a new puppy. The name means “replace another,” which might make this a great name for a dog that has been brought into your home to repair a hole in your heart that stems from the loss of another family member that was so important. It’s not going to replace your lost dog or cat, but a new pup can certainly remind you that life goes on and that you do have room for another in your heart.

Daisy

We think of a flower or a duck (and Disney) but it’s really simple to picture this name and a dog with long, floppy ears and a big smile, right? We love the name Daisy for a new puppy because it’s so sweet and so lovely. It’s simple and fun, and Daisy means flower. It’s beautiful and sort of elegant for a dog, and that’s why we feel this name is going to continue to grow in popularity as the New Year goes on.

Gizmo

It’s a scientific device, and it is the kind of name that a dog with a big personality needs. It’s perfect for a dog that is intelligent, quiet and very firm in his belief that he is to watch over the family and keep you all protected while still enjoying the love you have for him and for one another. We actually really love this name for a dog, and predict that it is going to be huge in 2016.

Cody

Going into the New Year is a new trend; naming dogs human names less than names such as “Killer” or “Spot” and Cody is growing quickly in popularity when it applies to sweet puppies. It’s a name that means “Cushion,” and we like to think that your puppy is a dog that is soft and welcoming, a bit like a cushion. It can also sound like a name that’s a bit manly and masculine, and we love that, too.

These are adorable and fun names that will, indeed, grow with your pup!

If you’d like to see more please go on over to Puppy Toob. There are at least ten more names to flip through and they are just as clever as the above… Although we personally have to admit to loving the name Sophie for a female puppy!

  1. Just curious! Why would anyone put such an oversized collar on their pup? This is ridiculous and can actually hurt the little one. When dealing with Pugs buy the soft cotton harnesses that adjust as they grow. I use the Puppia ones found on “ModernTails.com.” Just so you know, I don’t work for them but they have such cute ones. however, Petco and Petsmart and others have the solt ones as well.
