Why Were Plastic Fibers Found In Pedigree Dog Food?????

Soon after Brian discovered that according to Mars Pet Care, that the fibers were actually pig hairs that can occasionally become a part of the treat. After taking the Pedigree Marrowbone treat to a doctor nearby, the doc confirmed that this to be true.

The Facebook page for Pedigree pet food is lighting up with complaints and concerns about strange fibers in Pedigree treats that some worry may be harming their dog.

What's in That Treat?
The treats were Pedigree's “Marrobone.” Walsh said he opened the bag and found the fibers poking out of other samples.

Other People Raise Concerns
At blogs like Dog Food Advisor, buyers described the fibers as looking like “a toothbrush bristle,” “a piece of fishing line” or “a fish bone.”

So What is it?
A spokeswoman said the string-like fibers are “pig fur, which occasionally gets blended in during the cooking process.”

Dr Jordan Albrecht analyzed the fiber under a microscope. She said it was not plastic, but rather some type of animal fur.

The Bottom Line
If you have these Pedigree treats, the company insists they are safe to continue feeding your dog.

Even though the company insists that Pedigree treats are safe to feed your dog, do you feel they should have disclosed this on the package? And, do you still trust this company? It seems many pet parents still have concerns and rightly so.

It's important to know what you are feeding your pooch and if treats have ingredients in them that can potentially cause them harm. To read more about this important matter, visit WCPO.
