What Is Dog Fostering…. Exactly?

One misconception is that a foster family has to provide food, blankets, toys, etc. for their foster dog. This is false and in fact most organizations provide this for the doggy. Your job as a foster pet parent is to take care of them and give them the proper love and attention they deserve until they find a forever family. And if you have another dog or cat in your household it will be a good learning experience for your foster pup to learn how to socialize and interact with a new pet.

You provide: the home and the love

We provide: the food, bedding, toys, collar & leash (as needed), medical care and plenty of support

Foster commitments – We ask that you commit to a minimum of 2 weeks fostering.

Adoption events – We hold adoption fairs every weekend (except holidays). We’ll let you know when and where to drop of your guest, and when to pick them up (if they don’t get adopted).

Foster requirements

• Adequate schedule where the dog is not left alone for long periods at a time.
• Our dogs must be housed indoors (during the day and night).
• A safe environment where there are no potential hazards or escape routes.

I already have a dog. Can I still be a foster?
Yes! We love it when our fosters are able to make new friends.

What is the fostering time commitment?
We ask for a minimum of two weeks to help the dog settle into a routine.

Currently Dogs Without Borders is looking for foster parents, so if you feel this is something that's a good fit for you don't hesitate to fill out an application! If you're curious as to whether organizations in your area are looking for a foster pet parent visit their website or give them a call.

Even if you're unable to provide a Pug or another pooch with a forever home you can provide them shelter. Not to mention you will of course be able to give them lots of love until they do find their forever home.

Plus, it will not only do the doggy a world of good, but you'll feel happy knowing you changed a dog's life. Also, don't forget that if you have another doggy in your household the experience will give your dog a fun playmate for a time!
