If your dog has been spayed or neutered, then you understand how difficult is to see your pooch in pain. Besides the pain, the stitches also make the wound really itchy for your pup!

Even if he has a cone on that's supposed to prevent him from itching he will try his hardest to get to the wound despite the cone. And we understand the urge. Not scratching an itch is hard! Remember chicken pox? If our moms hadn't terrified us about the potential for permanent scarring, we probably would've scratched non-stop.

So as your dog's parent, it's up to you to keep him from itching his wound. His saliva is packed full of potential germs that can prevent the wound from healing. It can actually cause an infection. And if you think your dogs is miserable now with an itch, trust us… an infection is much worse.

That's the last thing you need after your dog is on his road to recovery! Luckily if a cone isn't working there are other ways to stock your pup from licking.
