A restuffable and easy DIY dog toy is perfect for any dog's birthday bash. All you need is a new or old toy, a pair of scissors, and some felt sheets. Ready to get to work?
Dogs loved stuffed dog toys, but they destroy them so fast. This easy tutorial will show you how to make a DIY Dog that your dog can safely unstuff over and over.
Here’s what you need:
1 stuffed toy of your choosing
Thread & Needle
Felt Sheets1. Choose your toy – Make sure you buy enough felt to fully stuff the inside of the toy you choose.
2. Cut a 1 1/2″ – 4″ slit in the toy. It needs to be big enough that your dog can get in there and pull out the stuffing.
3. Destuff the toy. Just yank it all out and toss it.
4. Sew one tight stitch at the top and one at the bottom of the opening. The stitch will hold the toy together and prevent the fabric from ripping further.
5. Cut felt into wide strips. I cut mine about 1 1/2″ wide.
6. Stuff felt and squeakers (if desired) into the toy. Continue until the toy is well stuffed.
7. Repeat step 6 as often as your dog requires.
I worry less that Felix will swallow a 12″ strip of felt less than I ever worried he would accidentally inhale some fluffing.
The look on his face when I put it back together and toss it to him is priceless.
Like Kol's Notes says on the blog post, this restuffable dog toy really is easy to put together for your pooch. Besides, if your doggy likes to “kill” his toys he can destroy a toy like this over and over again without you having to worry about him swallowing stuffing. He's less likely to swallow thick pieces of felt, but you should always supervise your pup to see how he plays with each toy.
Have fun creating fun birthday presents for all of the doggies in your family!
