Is Your Backyard Doggy Proof? 5 Things You Need To Check ASAP

There are several other ways to doggy proof your garden. Wanna know how? Obviously it's up to you to set the rules, but you can still make it fun for your Pug by setting up his own little area like we mentioned earlier. Also, be wary of planting plants that can cause your pooch to get sick. Even though he won't be going in that area doesn't mean he can't get to them when you're not looking!

Here are a few tips that you can follow to keep you and your dog happy as you create your perfect backyard escape.

1. Become familiar with poisonous plants and fungi

2. Plant salt tolerant plants and grasses

3. Build raised flower beds

4. Create densely planted areas

5. Create a dog friendly area for them to dig and play
If you dog loves to dig, create an sandpit area where they can dig and bury their toys.

6. Created a designated elimination area
Just like you house trained your dog, you can create an area in your garden that is for your dog to do its business.

7. Have special outdoor-only toys
Keep a stash of special toys that the dogs are only allowed to play with outside.

If you're still struggling with Fido peeing on your tulips and other plants, consider planting salt tolerant plants. These plants are more able to withstand your doggy peeing on them and can also be trampled on a few times as well, even though we wouldn't recommend allowing your pup to do that.

Be firm with your Pug when he's outdoors with you and continue to show him where his area is to eliminate and go digging if he wishes. Three Million Dogs also has addition great tips on this subject. After you get the hang of what works for you both, both doggy and parent will be happy as you enjoy your outdoor gardening months!
