Dogs With Behavioral Issues Get A Second Chance At Life With Prison Inmates

It's an amazing thing that not only shelter dogs are being given a second chance, but prison inmates are giving a “second chance” of sorts by spending time with loving animals. By pairing both the dogs and prison inmates together, lives are changing, and this is creating a positive ripple effect. We hope it continues to spread because it's certainly changing lives!

Shelter dogs with behavioral issues, are getting a second chance at finding a family, thanks to a program that involves round-the-clock training with prison inmates. The program, Paws for Life from Karma Rescue, started last year in a California State prison. Convicts, with life sentences and good behavior are carefully chosen and are paired up with dogs in need of corrective training. The inmate then spends the next twelve weeks with their pupil pup at their side.

Karma Rescue’s Paws for Life Program began in 2003 and has since saved over two thousand dogs from high kill shelters and placed them with loving, forever families. The program has been very successful, and everyone seems to benefit.

If you think about how much this organization is changing lives, doesn't it make you want to start an organization, or at least help get the word out? If Karma Dog Rescue can do this much good, imagine what we can do too.

We're so glad that these doggies are getting a second chance at not only becoming trained but hopefully finding an excellent home after spending time with the inmates. We also hope that the inmates find peace from spending time with these furry friends — we all know dogs can touch the soul! Read more about this story on Dogtime.
