To begin this story, we should really start with Prinny herself. A lovely white haired small dog in her golden years (pssst…..she's 12). Like a lot of dogs, Prinny outlived her owner. She was set to relocate with her late owners son, but the cards were not in anyone's favor as he was deployed to Iraq and unable to take care of Prinny while he was away. And so the dilemma begins. And not just for Prinny, but for Marc as well. Marc was dealing with the loss of his mother and now the burden of not being able to care for her favorite pet. Add to that the responsibilities of being a soldier, and you've got a very unpleasant situation for all.

After some back and forth, Prinny found herself at Rescued With Love. Very soon, a veteran heard the story about Prinny and was moved so much he adopted her. The founder of Rescued With Love, Norma Kae, wanted the soldier to know that Prinny had found a forever home, that way she could ease his mind in knowing that she was being well taken care of. Below is an excerpt from the open letter she wrote to him.  

“Dear Soldier, you don’t know me, but I know of you,” the letter began. “I know you were heading to Darwin and then being deployed in Iraq. You are probably going through more than what anyone can ever imagine – and I wanted to ease your mind by letting you know your Mum’s dog Prinny is safe and happy with us at Rescued With Love. I know your Mum passed away and I am so sorry for your loss. Losing parents is hell, and to have to give up Prinny and surrender her to the RSPCA because you had no option would have been an unbearable burden.

“Prinny was adopted before she even came to us, because her foster Dad Brendan is a Veteran. He heard about Prinny’s predicament – and wanted to step up regardless. I asked he and his wife to wait and foster her – but it seems I didn’t need to be cautious at all. Prinny has fallen in love with her Dad, and he with her, and they are now inseparable, and very very loved.”

But the good news doesn’t end there. Rescued With Love later posted that the open letter did indeed find its way to Prinny’s former owner. And Brendan and Sheryl, who adopted Prinny, will be contacting Marc, the former owner, when he gets back. What a happy reunion.

Isn't that a beautiful ending to a sad story? We all hope that when things go south, there is a possibility for life to turn itself around. Kind of like a rainbow after a bad storm. But we're realists and understand that doesn't always happen. But that's exactly why stories like this are so fantastic.
