You’ll Never Guess What Relaxes This Dog – So Cute!

The staff of the shelter thinks the eight-year-old Murphy, who arrived around four months ago and is currently their longest resident, enjoys the written word because it reminds him of having a home. They are desperate to get him a new pet parent.

Lesley O’Donoghue, deputy manager at the Rehoming Centre, said: “One day he saw one of our canine carers with a book and he got really excited so we sat down and read to him in his kennel.
“He loved the companionship and he immediately relaxed. We now read to him outside when the weather’s good and he particularly loves going to the staff accommodation and settling down with a treat whilst he enjoys a story.

“It seems to really remind him of being in a loving, cosy home. Luckily he’s not fussy about the subject matter, his smile just gets wider and wider whatever the story.”

In a bid to break up Murphy’s time in kennels and remind him of homecomforts, staff at the Dogs’ Home centre on Parkway in Denton, have also been taking him for walks, training sessions and even swimming, as well as story time.

Whoever ends up with Murphy, preferably a home where he’s the lone dog and there are no children, will get a sweet dog and if they read to him occasionally all the better!
