You know how you react when you are in the middle of a conversation with a friend and then another joins the group. Suddenly your friend and the newcomer starts speaking a another language and you have no idea what they're saying? If not, it happens. And when it does, it's awkward. You sort of smile and gaze them both and pretend you sort-kinda get what they are saying and wait for them to include you.

Dogs are far more transparent. If they don’t understand they will give you signs that it just is not registering. It can be an ear twitch, the cock of their head or just a long vacant stare. Take your pick.
