Easy Tips for Socializing Your German Shepherd

Socializing your German Shepherd is one of the best things you can ever do for your dog. How dogs behave with other dogs and people is crucial to their development. If you've ever watched dogs playing at a dog park, then you probably have a good sense of what doggy “socializing” is like. There's playing with toys, harmless roughhousing and chasing other dogs around the grass. It's really wonderful to see all that energy being unleashed (pun not intended). But sometimes, you'll see a different scenario. Maybe one of the newer dogs in the group is timid and shy and doesn't know how to play with the other dogs. Or on the other end of the spectrum, maybe you have hyper dog who hasn't mastered their social skills yet and is unintentionally scaring the other dogs by jumping or biting them out of excitement. Regardless of the where your pooch falls on the socializing spectrum, the solution to these issues is the same: They need to be socialized properly.

But how does one go about socializing their pup? There are numerous things you can do that will help your pooch feel more comfortable around other dogs, with new people and in new environments. Ever wonder why some dogs can walk calmly with their owners down a crowded beach path without barking, running or getting overly excited? That's because they've been conditioned to those situations. And that is exactly what proper socializing will do for you and your pup.

On page 2, we're going to outline some clear and easy steps you can take to help refine your dogs socializing skills and get them on the right track!
