This K9 Dog Lost His Partner But Gained A Family

Eric Eslary, the man who passed away on May 5th, 2015, did some important things in society, including starting the K-9 program. A man who gave so much to his family and to the organization had a faithful German Shepherd who stood by his side until the very end. And that is true love.

When Lt. Eric Eslary passed away in the line of duty, his K-9 partner refused to leave his side. Eslary was driving with the German Shepherd on May 5, 2015 when a van driving on the wrong side of the road struck the police car head on fatally injuring Eslary.

Recently Lt. Eslary's wife, Mary Beth, broke her silence and spoke to the media about her husband.

“It was a big comfort, having him here, and at least knowing I had a part of Eric back with me. He was glad to be home as well,” Mary Beth told WTAE News. “He's really coming along, adjusting to home life. He looks for Eric, I think, sometimes. But he's doing really good.”

“It's an honor to now take care of Blek, for Eric. It's just really good to have him home. I need him,” she added.

We're so glad that Blek is being taken care of by his family, and what a blessing that the owner's wife and children are reminded of their father daily through this courageous pup. We only hope that Blek continues to do well and bravo to a strong and incredible German Shepherd that has made our world a brighter place to live in.
