Super Simple Tips to Train Your German Shepherd to Heel

Is your pooch walking you more than you're walking them? This is a common issue in the dog world but can be especially difficult for larger breeds. When a dog walks ahead of you on its leash, it can cause a large variety of issues. The leash holder has less control, the dog could potentially get into something harmful (toxic food on the ground, etc.) or they could be unintentionally causing damage to your arm or shoulder. Either way, it is important for your dog – large or small – to understand the method of “heeling”.

During general obedience training, heeling is among the doggy basics. It's right up there with sit, stay and come. Dogs love walking with their humans! But often times when they first start out on a walk, they're very excited. And it can sometimes feel as though they're in a rush to get wherever it is you two are going very VERY fast! But with a large breed, especially a German Shepherd, it can sometimes feel impossible or even overwhelming to handle them. Don't fret! We've got some fool proof methods on the next page for you.

On page 2, we're going to show you some SUPER simple tips to train your German Shepherd to heel!
