Now, don’t think this is a technique where you shout: “No!” or “Stop!” because those methods seldom work well. As a matter of fact, the pooch thinks you are playing! But check this out:
Here’s the trick that will solve you this problem. Simply when your dog jumps on, do the following:
1. Avoid any eye contact with your dog.
2. Cross your arms over your chest.
3. Turn your back to your dog and don’t say a word!
4. When your dog comes back in front of you to jump again, say “SIT”
5. If they sit, make sure you reward them with a TREAT!
Now they can associate jumping on you with no attention and no care and when they don’t jump on you and sit they’ll be rewarded!
Seems a little too simple, doesn’t it? But it works! We tried it on a friend's pug and were surprised how quickly he caught on.
The sooner you train your pooch the better. If you have adopted a puppy do it now! It may seem cute for him to jump on you now but later you may regret it!
For more information on this subject go on over to Urdogs. There are some great picture examples over there and a bit more detailed information.
Be proud of your pup and teach him well!
